How to measure & fit your roller blind
Two minutes with a steel tape and you’re ready to order. Measure in millimetres, and if anything’s unclear, order a free sample or book a measure — the RightFit guarantee covers a mis-measure either way.
1 · Decide inside or outside fit
Inside (recess) fit
The blind sits inside the window recess. Needs a recess at least 70 mm deep. Give us the exact recess size — we take off the small fit allowances so it runs freely.
Outside (face) fit
Mounts on the wall above the window — good for shallow recesses or to block more light. Add overlap: +100 mm each side, +100 mm at the top and +100 mm at the bottom.
Which size do I enter? Inside fit — enter the exact opening; we deduct for a smooth-running fit. Outside fit — you decide how far the blind goes over the reveal, so enter the finished size you want (opening + your overlap) and we make it to that exact size.
2 · Measure
Measure the width in three places — top, middle, bottom.
- Width — measure in 3 places. Top, middle and bottom of the recess. Recesses are rarely square, so use the narrowest.
- Drop — measure the height. From the top of the recess to the sill (or where you want it to end).
- Enter the recess size as-is for an inside fit — we make the deductions. For an outside fit, add your overlap first.
- Work in millimetres and measure each window separately.
Work out your order size
Measure in millimetres, pick your fit, and we’ll show the exact size to enter in the designer. RightFit covers a mis-measure either way.
3 · Fit it
You’ll need
- Position the brackets 100 mm in from each end — top of the recess (inside) or on the wall, level (outside).
- Mark & drill the screw holes; plug if masonry.
- Screw the brackets in firmly.
- Clip in the blind — push the tube into the brackets until it clicks. Chain is on the side you chose.
- Test & fit the chain safety clip to the wall.
