How to measure & fit your wood Venetian blind

50mm real-wood-look slats, tilted for light and privacy. Measure in millimetres — for an inside fit, give us the exact recess and we handle the rest.

1 · Decide inside or outside fit

Inside the recess

Inside (recess) fit

Sits inside the recess. Our Venetian bracket is 50×65 mm, so you need a recess at least 70 mm deep. Give the exact recess size.

On the wall / frame

Outside (face) fit

Mounts on the wall — great where the recess is shallow. Add +100 mm each side, +100 mm at the top and +100 mm at the bottom.

Which size do I enter?  Inside fit — enter the exact opening; we deduct for a smooth-running fit.  Outside fit — you decide how far the blind goes over the reveal, so enter the finished size you want (opening + your overlap) and we make it to that exact size.

2 · Measure

WIDTHDROP

Measure the width top, middle and bottom — use the narrowest.

  1. Width — 3 places, use the narrowest.
  2. Drop — top of recess to sill. Remember the slats gather (stack) at the top when raised.
  3. Enter the exact recess for inside fit — we deduct for clearance. Outside fit: add overlap.
  4. Note your tilt + lift side when ordering (left or right).
We make the deductions. Exact opening in, perfectly-fitting blind out — covered by RightFit.
Online size range: up to 2700 mm wide × 3000 mm drop. Larger (or an awkward shape)? Book a free measure and we size it exactly.

3 · Fit it

In the box: your made-to-measure blind, mounting brackets and covers, screws and wall plugs, and the cord or chain safety clip for corded blinds. Drill bit: a 6 mm bit suits the brackets. No middle support bracket is needed at our online sizes — it runs on the two end brackets.

PencilDrillScrewdriverSpirit levelTape measure
  1. Fix the headrail brackets near each end (and a centre bracket on wider blinds), level.
  2. Clip the headrail into the brackets.
  3. Add the valance (front rail cover) if supplied — it clips on.
  4. Hang the wand/cord and test the tilt and the raise/lower.
  5. Fit the cord cleat / safety device to the wall.
Child safety: secure the cord to the supplied cleat or tensioner — keep cords out of reach.
